Frequently Asked Questions
How do I calculate cost per yard of fabric including waste?
Divide the total purchase cost of the fabric by the usable yardage after shrinkage and trimming. For example, if 3 yards cost $36 and shrinks by 10% (leaving 2.7 usable yards), your effective cost is $36 ÷ 2.7 = $13.33 per usable yard.
What pricing markup should handmade makers use?
Standard craft and bespoke sewing formulas typically use: Wholesale = (Materials + Labor) × 2, and Retail = Wholesale × 2 (or 3x total production cost).
